Head Grounds Person

Candidate profile:
Coventry City Football Club is looking to recruit a Head Grounds Person to oversee the development, management and maintenance of the playing surfaces at the 1st Team Training Ground and Academy Training Ground Facilities as well as the surrounding landscapes.
Reporting to the Chief Executive, the successful candidate will manage a team of three staff and ideally have a minimum of 5 years' experience working in grounds maintenance with at least 2 being at managerial/supervisory level. Experience of working in a professional football club or similar facility is essential.

Roles and responsibilities...
Health & safety:
To adhere to the highest standards of health and safety in the course of the role and ensure all staff under the post holder's supervision do so. To help identify additional training needs on an on-going basis for all grounds staff.

Management/Administration:
Effectively manage all aspects of the training ground/academy grounds maintenance works on a daily basis, to the highest industry standards possible.
To organise the grounds staff effectively to deliver the work programmes. Ensure daily, weekly, monthly and annual timescales are met.
To manage and supervise closely the assistant grounds staff.
To ensure works required are re-laid clearly and efficiently, and a clear reporting line is kept in place at all times.
To manage a working schedule for all staff, to ensure that the sites are manned as required to provide the necessary service level for all internal /external users.
Keep up to date records as required, electronically or hard copy, on all areas of the grounds maintenance works, to meet any legislation needs and for optimum efficiency for the workings of the sites.
Recommending and producing documents for fertiliser application programs, chemicals and CAPEX with related costs for consideration by the clubs directors.

Communication:
To communicate reports to the Chief Executive, written and verbally as required, on all areas of works of the training ground/academy usage and grounds maintenance.
To communicate with the club's Manager / coaching staff as required to ensure that pitch use is available and allocated to meet the manager's needs at any time /day requested. To advise on pitch conditions to then determine and agree adjustment if required to training pitches allocated for use, and timing schedule of such usage.
To communicate with the Academy Manager/ coaching staff as required to ensure that pitch use is available and allocated to meet the needs of the Academy training/match schedules at any time/day requested, and to advise and agree any adjustment if required to pitches allocated for match /training use timing schedule of this.

Presentation:
To represent the club in a professional manner. This is a high profile role, therefore candidates must present with a clean and smart appearance at all times. Uniform will be provided by the club to be worn whilst on duty, or any other dress code as approved/required to carry out the performance of duties on/off site on behalf of the club.
The successful candidate will have excellent communication and interpersonal skills with the ability to work on their own initiative as well as part of a team with an organised and calm approach to work. Possessing a strong character, they must be willing to work unsociable hours which will include evenings and weekends and have a flexible approach to tasks and the ability to work to tight deadlines.

Essential requirements:
  • Hold an NVQ Level 3 (or an equivalent qualification) in Sports Turf Management.
  • Hold PA1, PA2, PA6 NPTC pesticide spraying certificate.
  • Be computer literate in spreadsheets, word processing.
  • Have a thorough knowledge of COSHH and Health & Safety guidelines.
  • Experience of completing general grounds administration functions.
  • A clean driving licence.
