Football club KVK Tienen squares off against opponents in the Bergé stadium. In order to guarantee continued football fun in the coming years, the club recently installed a new field.
For the first time, KVK Tienen invested in an artificial turf pitch, which lasts longer and stands up to the wear and tear of daily use. 'In the past, we used the field weekly. Now, we're on it almost every day. Our first team, U23, youth divisions and veterans regularly use the field for training and games', says chairman Willy Schepers.
Love at first sight The KVK board in Neerpede found inspiration for a new synthetic turf field at the training complex of first division team RSC Anderlecht. 'When the club glimpsed the practice fields at the complex, it was really love at first sight', laughs Patrick Boydens of Scheerlinck Sport, specialized in field installations. 'They asked us to make an exact copy in the Bergé stadium, with all the trimmings. This proved to be a revolutionary Profoot MXSi TLT turf field from Lano Sports, filled with organic cork oak over a sustainable limestone foundation.'
Operation Bergé At the beginning of June 2017, Scheerlinck launched 'Operation Bergé'. Less than two months later, a brand-new synthetic turf pitch was catching eyes in Tienen. 'Construction was a big success, but it was also a challenging undertaking', Patrick recalled. 'We worked in the heart of the stadium and had to deal efficiently with limited access, space and maneuverability. However, the results are worth it: KVK Tienen now sports a field that meets the latest FIFA standards.'
